According to Deadline.com, NBC has picked David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman pilot, after all.
The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.
Both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter report David E. Kelley has been tapped for a Wonder Woman show. Warner Brothers has had no comment. Kelley who has done Ally McBeal and Boston Legal is an interesting choice although he does have a slight connection to DC. His wife Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman. I’d love it if he could get her to play Hippolyta. I’ll post more as details emerge but this does seem like good news.
I’m still processing this news. A year or two I would have been thrilled. Now I’m gunshy. I’m curious which approach they’ll take — classic or modernized — and if it’ll have any residual effect on the comic book. My earliest Wonder Woman comics date from when they switched the book to WWII because of the first season of the old television series. I hope they go the Lynda Carter route and find a fresh face.
